Anyone out there using spray in their 4.0L?

Well I am looking for more power from ole Sonic. I have been investigating both spray (NOS) and SC. As I understand it if I go with SC I will have to rebuild the engine with forged pistons that are scalloped on the top to lower the compression ratio which stock is too high from what I have been reading. No need to do the rods as they are already forged but they do recommend shot peaning them and the crank.....sigh....man this is getting expensive. So I thought I may just add a 75 hp shot of NOS instead. Anyone else doing the same? Looking for feed back.

There's a guy in Edmonton (Matthew knows him I think) whose blown up at least two 6'ers with a V8 procharger. Apparently now he has all forged internals and it's holding together and making decent power.

I've also seen a s/c'd 6'er at the Home Depot shows. Someone makes a kit now. Don't know if you need to go forged with that one or not.

The kit sold by Shelby (IIRC Paxton Novi 1200) makes no mention of changing the internals over. I'd double check that info before going any further Sonic - I'd heard the stock internals were good to around 350hp or so.

Hopefully you V6ers aren't offended by this, but I have to ask why you didn't buy a GT in the first place if you're thinking of putting Nitrous on your V6.

Just using this article from super 6 as my research http://www.supersixmotorsports.com/pdf/40SOHCTech.pdf

If you don't get off your back
I will feed you a 100hp shot!

Price...gas mileage....easy to change the spark plugs.....all the same style.....solid engine design....easy HP upgrades.....bragging rights when beating stock fox 5.0L cars in the 1/4 mile......the challenge of creating more HP.....telling guys at the track that "it's a Naturally Aspirated V6 auto with open diff, street tires and 3.31 gears" when you run a 14 second 1/4 mile. Them's some of the reasons.

But yes you are correct all that can be had with a 4.6 modular V8.

I believe this was the kit I saw at the Home Depot show. Nice setup!

That is an eaton/magnacharger joint venture, seems like a great way to go... Something like what Ford would put on the 6-pack if it was going to..
As a nitrous runner, I'd have to say... Blow it instead! I hate filling my bottle... Watching the pressure, all the accessories to make it work all the time... just blow it, tune it right, and damn near forget about it.

ken
not true both procharger and x charger have a 4.0 kit and the both give you a 50% increase in horse power around 330 to flywheel nive set up on both. I like procharger you have lots of rom to install it your option
the bad part on xcharger it is a packaged tune so to change things like going to forrged internal it is harder to increase boost. procharger we change pulley and with forged internals and local guy like Matt can tune it tune car not someone in usa

Sadly friend, those cars don't show up to the track anymore, stock, fox, and 1/4 mile...

Spraying a 4.0L sounds like a grand time, nitrous is a good kick in the trousers, but that open diff might make any power adder somewhat less effective.

So long as you follow the rules of Nitrous use, you should be fine.

I ran 3 seasons on my setup (forged rods & hyper pistons) and moved to the KB, so competant Nitrous use is worth the effort.

The X-charger is packaged with an SCT unit so any good tuner should be able to rework that base tune for you, just the same as the procharger unit.

There's also the turbo option. For some reason I like turbo'd V6's ('87 GNX for example) but s/c'd V8's.

For the S197 V6's, turbo kits are available from STS and Powerhouse and probably others.
