my car has no reverse but it has everything else and then i found this part dangling in the engine bay and it was right behind the engine and could someone tell me what it is thx.

o and by the way its a 1988 old cutlass supreme sl 2.8L multiport FI

it's a busted o2 sensor, the other half is still threaded into the exhaust.

could you tell me why my tranny was leaking oil all over the place and i have no reverse if thats possible

that won't be your problem. your trans will either be a 125c/3t40 (3spd) or a 440t4/4t60 (4spd) if it's the 4spd the usual culprit is either a bad reverse servo seal or more likely the drive shell (or stove pipe as we call it) if it's a 3 spd it's most likely the low/reverse clutch or feed tube in the pan. either way it's likely toast unfortunately. no reverse is almost always a major. sorry.

i don`t know what the o2 sensor was hanging and they think that it was blown

its a oxygen sensor that tells the computer if the engine is burning to rich or lean...
