Unhappy TIming help!

I must be doing something wrong! Don't really know too much about tuning so any help would be appreciated. Put the new motor in the car. 331 stroker with 10.3 :1 compression. Bought an SCT chip so I can use the stock MAM for now and get MAM shortly. Just can't get base timing set properly. Had it running for a while, while pedaling. Tried to adjust base timing again and fucked it up. Where does the distributor, rotor have to be orientated in relation to the the engine. Any mobile tuners in Calgary? Thanks, Ben

Ben, are you going to make me drive down from Swift to get that thing running?

Get her running, pull the spout (in the dist. harness) and set timing to 10 degrees.

Put the motor at TDC on cylinder one, then install the distributor so that the rotor points at the cylinder one terminal on the distributor cap. Because the gears are helically cut the distributor will turn when you drop it in, so take that into account. Pull the spout connector then start the engine at set it to 10* BTDC with a timing light.
