Meets, Cruises and Shows

I just wanted to ask a really quick question (cause I'm still a newbie) if you needed to be knowledgeable with cars or have had to modified your Mustang or added anything to it to be able to go on Cruises and Shows.

Seems like everyone on here knows so much about Mustangs and cars in general! I know the general stuff but have never been exposed to working under the hood. Great place to ask questions though, I haven't been disappointed yet!

Cheers

Other than some being invite only (probably rare) or limited space to display a car that would be the only limitations I could think of, I bet some people don't even drive and hit the shows (probably would have a hard time asking the bus driver to follow the crowd on a cruise tho lol).

Modifications would only limit a particular 'class' you could show in (if entering to show). Knowledge of mods or how to do them are simply a bonus, its the enthusiasm for the hobby that matter most.

Cruises range from fully organized to "hey bud lets rip around". Anyone telling you to go away if you can't wrench isn't worth hanging around.

one word of advice tho...watch that mod bug (cruises and shows don;t help much usually ), once it bites its a slippery slope with no recovery!

As said above knowledge is not a requirement - enthusiasm is. You'll quickly recognise who the enthusiasts are when you attend the events & hopefully make a bunch of new friends.

Hit all the shows you can. The best part is meeting the other people.

Many folks out there in the exact same situation Shtang3854. The organized show circuit has always boggled my mind at the best of times, and I'm not really interested in the judging/awards end of things. Anything that smacks of being exclusionary doesn't hold much appeal for me, unless maybe it's something like a dealership holding an all-Mustang or all Ford show.

Generally, I found that the local, semi-organized Cruise nights are a good way to start. Here in small town Ontario for instance, there is a local Cruise In show every Thursday night in Southampton over the course of the summer, where you pay your $2 to enter your car, get a couple of 50/50 tickets and all money goes to the local hospital. It's open to any vehicle, but space is limited.

Another similar event I've seen is the Cruise In events that your local A&W might run. I've never been to one (yet), but my understanding is it's much the same.

It's a weird feeling to have folks check out your ride, but as it's been said, it's also a great commen ground and conversation starter to exchange info with other enthusiasts. Its an endless resource for information on future mods as well, so keep Dans words in mind!! Bottem line is to get out there and have fun !

our family has been enjoying the Mustang hobby and attending shows for nearly 20 years now. all you need is enthusiasm, the car is secondary and mods are not necessary at all.

and GT4MT raises a good point about cruise-ins. In the GTA there is a different cruise night every night of the week so whatever night(s) you are free, there is a parking lot and friends waiting for you!! once the warm weather hits the nights and locations will start to get posted up.

I would have to aggree with everything said in the previous posts. The best thing in the summer are our Wednesday night meet. I leave work, go to the car was if needed. Do a quick detail (may car in summer is always spottless) and hit the meet by 6:00 PM and don't leave until the sun goes down. The first one I went to I did not know anyone but that soon changed and now I hang with older/younger folks and shoot the s**te, talk cars, modding, polooooootics (thats touchy...lol), what ever happens to be the topic for the night not to mention meeting new people all the time, it's great!!!

So i have been with the Alberta Mustang Owners Club now for a little over a year and am always called upon to voluntier for something.

Can't wait for the season to start. Got some new mods going in before spring just in time for our first meet "Spring Thaw @ Deerfoot Mall"

Cheers and hit as many shows as you can and you will be amazed at the knoledge you will gain and the willingness of people.

Since you're in Mississauga, check out the GTAMC & GHMA sites. They have frequent shows & a great one in late July at JC Saddington Park at the foot of Mississauga Road on the lake in Port Credit. Also, check out your local A & W restaurant for a "Cruisin the Dub" night after May 24 weekend. More info on the A& W website this spring!

There's also lots of cruises available as well with groups outside the GTA, like Kitchener, Durham, etc. Joe DaSilva Racing has a great cruise out of Pickering every spring & fall.

In London, we have the Fleetwood Country Cruize In June 4 & 5 this year, but any post-1985 exhibitors should check with the organizers first. Check out the post in the Ontario Sub-Forum if interested.

Where are the Wednesday night meets being held this year for the Alberta Mustang Owners Club? Is it the same all makes meet that was at the Home depot lot on Macleod Trail? I would love to attend to see other Mustangs....Thanks.

The Home Depot Wednesday night shows moved to the Deerfoot Mall last year. Much bigger parking area and many more cars.

Every Wednesday night at 6:00-6:30 until dusk, weather permitting.

See you there.
