Curious as to the trans failure.... How much power were you making? Stock trans/converter? Was the trans/converter controls monkeyed with in the tune? If so, what was changed. How long did it last at this power level? What exactly failed?
Thanks! |

Im running about 350 crank hp i had monkeyed with the shift pressures along time ago to make it shift harder i bumped up the shift pressure and shift points i had it on the dyno last week and we noticed it was coming out of lock up so we put it back to stock pressures and it seemed to work fine it is working still just smells burnt so time for a new one for a built one to fit a 4.6 bell housing im looking at mega bucks (do you have some advice on how to make one last longer than 40K )
enuff that with my budget i wont get it going for a few months Last edited by Terminal Velocity : 06-25-2008 at 12:17 AM. |

Two places for tranny tech Click Click Racing
and TCCoA.com - Thunderbird & Cougar Club of America on the home page click on tech articles and look in the forums too. I am no tranny tech but raising the pressure of the epc will cause trans failure. Ford sells a higher pressure solenoid but it is not neccessary if you do the j-mod (ford engineer designed shift kit). On clickclickracing the moderator is Dan (silverfox) he is a great guy and will help you out. It is easy to build the trans to withstand over 650hp. The only parts i have left right now for one is the complete solenoid and hard harness for a 98 and up 4r70w. I will sell them for half of what ford charges, they are brand new. Mark

higher pressure = higher heat. that is why a properly engineered shift kit should always be used. imo opinion, a line pressure guage and temp guage are a must when running anything that produces power. that pressure guage should always bounce up and down like it's connected to the throttle.

Alex, why don't you give the guy a price on a nice 4r70w? You could just ship it with my astro parts when they come in.

Thats a good price as long as it is a 99 or newer trans. Most wreckers around Edmonton charge 600.00 to 700.00 for one.

Thats really cool, it is amazing what some guys have been building lately. Its not hard to tell there is alot of money floating around this province. Do you know if the guy still has the 02 body? I would be interested if its still in one piece.
