my guess would be custom exhaust and intake of some sort.

Wiring loom, all ancilleries, ECU, Headers, full intake system, the list is almost without end.
You'd be better off finding an accident damaged 4.6/32 terminator in the States and transplanting the whole shooting match, and even then you'd have to fabricate alternatives for some parts.

Pretty sure when they did the article in MM&FF they adapted all the stock wiring and tuned it using the 4.6 computer. All the stock exhaust was used but had to be cut and widened due to the physically wider engine. A mustang intake was used because the truck intake is way too tall to fit under the hood. They had to fabricate adapters with a CNC machine to make it work but I think there is now a company that sells them for such swaps.

You will probably find that the intake adapter plates to be very expensive - like equal to buying an aftermarket cowl hood which would give you more clearance and look cool. Lots of guys swap the 5.4 in the trucks and just use all the 4.6 sensors, etc and just get the computer tuned, so it wouldn't be much different. The exhaust would be the biggest hurdle other than hood clearance, and probably you can find headers made for this.

Aluminum adapter plate kits with gaskets run about $250. You'd need a big 4-6" cowl hood ($4-500 plus paint) to clear the truck intake, IMO it would look a little silly unless it was a drag car.

I'm hopeing it's easy, I bought a 2002 5.4l Super Charged out of a lightning to do this. The oem S/charger is being changed out to a paxton... so no holes or something 10" sticking out of my hood.there's a intake being made should be ready for sale by march 08 and around $800.00, it's made the same shape as the 4.6 intake but made for the 5.4L. also long tube headers in the works as well.the tranny bolts right up, most wireing as well (a few mods)uses the 4.6 ecm as well. Think 380hp loads of torque, there's quite a few already that have the 5.4 installed.I think it's worth it now I'\ll let you know next fall 08 .

5.4 swap

Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords did an early fox body with the 5.4 lightning motor. They had a 4 inch cowl and they still had to cut it but it looked pretty cool.

The 2000 was a non s/c 5.4L. Different motor mounts and a lower crossmember were used to help with clearance issues.

Sounds like if you run the 5.4 2v motors out of the f150s, expeditions, and the vans, they bolt in with some mods to the exhaust and 4.6 to 5.4 adapter plates and the factory intake. it sits abit higher in the engine bay and can fit under the factory hood with some notching on the hood some guys have had 260 rwhp and torque around 320-330 rwtq with plenum, cam x-pipe and cat-back.

If you look on youtube there is one car running the lightning motor but its got a notched out cowl hood.
