New Hope for 2V 4.6L -- TFS Intake Test!

Pick up a copy of June '07 5.0 Mustang and Super Fords for all the details.

Here's the propaganda from Trickflow:

Track Heat® Intake Manifold for Ford 4.6L 2V
Add some ponies to your Mustang with Trick Flow’s newest high performance intake manifold—the Track Heat 4.6L 2V! Designed for hot street and track-ready 4.6L SOHC Mustang GTs, the Track Heat 4.6L 2V manifold improves performance in the meat of the engine’s powerband—between 1,500 to 6,500 rpm with unported cylinder heads and 1,500 to 7,200 rpm with aftermarket or ported cylinder heads.

The secret lies with the symmetrical high-velocity intake ports and 75mm throttle body inlet, which work together to substantially increase airflow and distribute it evenly to the cylinders. With this revolutionary intake, you will be rewarded with big increases in performance over more expensive manifolds! Plus, the intake’s A319 aluminum construction is not affected by nitrous like the weak, plastic factory manifold. And don’t worry about hood clearance—the Track Heat intake is a direct bolt-on replacement for stock and will fit under any stock-height hood.

Here's the short of the test, great product that could support up to 7,000 RPM range.

Conducted on a stock 02 GT - 40,000 miles
235.69 HP @ 4900 RPM
248.21 TQ @ 5100 RPM

TFS Track Heat manifold 70mm TB and CAI
248.99 HP @ 5300 RPM
269.56 TQ @ 4300 RPM

Difference
+13.3 Peak HP
+21.35 Peak TQ

Now 5.0 mag is always fond of charts with lots of numbers but the real benefit of this manifold is best expressed via the conventional graph which I've built for everyone to see.

Mainly look at the average TQ gained, how to make a 2V 4.6L act like a 5.0L...

Nice, good to see more aftermarket for the 99-04 4.6L, and that is a pretty healthy gain at that.

Hats off to trick flow, they keep on making parts that are proven to work and work well.

hopefully it can be proven by a few "real" tests to gain that much not like the typhoon, where people actually are losing hp and tq...

If it does I might have to sign up for a test drive...

Wow the torque was way better through the whole chart, and stayed consistant...IMO alot of people don't pay enough attention to torque #'s, it's all about the horsepower with most people...NOt me though, I love torque...I guess that's why I went with a 351W!

There's an error somewhere in the data. It looks like the "stock torque" is the same as the stock horsepower. Since horsepower is a function of torque and RPM, this would be impossible. If the stock torque was charted correctly, I'll bet most here would be disappointed.
To calculate the torque, the formula is hp*5252/rpm
For example from the curve, the stock motor makes 200hp at approximately 3800rpm, plug it into the formula: 200*5252/3800= 276.4 ft/lbs, not 200 as reported on the torque graph.
Looks like all the power is in the top of the range but the fact that it's made from aluminum rather than a composite is a plus.

Pretty sweet. I don't know which genius at Ford decided a plastic intake would suffice for a muscle car...

Managed to find a store stocking them:
Trick Flow Track Heat Intake Manifolds for Ford 4.6L 2V: TFS-51800002 - summitracing.com

Not a bad price for an aluminum intake I guess.

I've seen it in person at Performance Parts Center in Langley and it's an impressive looking piece. Everyone was looking so I couldn't walk out with it lol.

yeah, you 2V boys got it tough. looks like a stout piece though. wouldnt have to worry about a nitrous backfire killing that like a plastic one.

this thread is a good indicator of how many guys are modding pushrod engines compared to modulars. we needed some help when the 5.0 came out, and we got it.

The thing is that the stock intake is not really that bad of an intake stock for stock compared to it's old 5.0L counterpart. Lots of guys make 500-600 rwhp with the stock plastic piece. I'm sure if sales really took off the price would probably come down closer to 5.0L stuff. As it stands now it's only just over $200 US more than the trickflow R 5.0L manifold.

August 2007 MM&FF has an ad for Edelbrock Victor Jr. for 4.6 2V as well. So new there is no mention of the part on the Edelbrock website, and no response to my email either ( just sent it this a.m though).
