I didn't really start looking until the late summer of 2007. After looking around for a bit, I started dealing on an '07 red vert with a tan top. Before I could complete the deal, my wife decided that we needed to go on a family shopping trip to Seattle and after a day or so of wandering the malls, I managed to sneek off and found myself at Harris Ford in Lynnwood Washington. For some reason, this particular vista blue coupe really caught my eye and before the afternoon was out it was mine. The original exterior mods and paint were done at AutoFX in Tacoma, Washington and the lowering springs, shifter, exhaust, and wheels/tires were done by the dealership. My first significant drive in the car was the cruise across Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Alberta - all the way back to Calgary in some of the most beautiful weather and scenery. Quite a way to fall in love with a car. The May 2008 long weekend saw the installation of the supercharger and gauges. The line locks followed later in the summer. In the fall of '08 a few passes on the dragstrip finished off the stock clutch and the build plans for the winter commenced. The new drivetrain was installed in May/June of '09. The build went very well with a few minor hiccups. My plan is that this will be a very nasty street car with tastefully selected styling. The car is a summer daily driver with occasional drag strip passes. I have yet to try road course or autocross but might try those as well. I've tried to put everything together in one place on this project. I'll be making updates and adding in pictures etc as I work through my current mods list.

Wow. Beautiful looking ride Klaw. It looks unique right now but, it will definately be one of a kind after you've finished modding this year. How much power are you looking to make? My guess would be in the 600rwhp range. Nice to see you went with Livernois. I've heard only good things about them. Keep us updated on the build.

Hard to get all that in a signature? I like this format. It allows people to see and poll you for the mods they may be looking to do, or have already done and have info to give you. Exhausting list - do not forget to drive her in between mods. The baer 14" rotor and 6P caliper are excellent - I pull 11" on the back to leave room for tire swap on track days. The McLoed Twin is great - little stiff at first, but I do not notice it now - excellent load up and lets you feel all that whipple.

Thanks guys. I have to say building this car has been a real obsession.

Livernois has been good to deal with so far but they now have had my cash for 10 days and I'm nervously waiting on a shipping confirmation. Edit: The pallet shipped from Michigan via DB Shenker on Friday April 17th and was in Calgary on Sunday and Edmonton by Monday noon. Clearing customs (Carlson) on Tuesday.

Wow...pretty long list of stuff to do to your Mustang. I'm doing good to make the payments on my '05, pay the mortgage and put food on the table, let alone blow that kind of cash on toys. Must be nice to be able to do that!
With that kind of money spent, what does a guy do for insurance coverage? I mean, you changed just about every moving part on the car.... if something happens, god forbid, will the insurance company give you hell for modding the car? Maybe even say tough luck, we won't pay your claim? Not sure how the whole thing works in Calgary, but just wondered if you covered your butt. Nice car btw..... |

A quick update:
The build went great. Everything went together pretty smoothly. I have yet to do the rear gears and install the front brakes and have a myriad of small issues to finish up. After install, the car fired right up and ran reasonably well on a base tune supplied by Matthew. We ran the car through a couple heat cycles and then shut it down and trailered it to the dyno. Once on the dyno, we decided to do a shakedown cruise to ensure that there were no issues with the new drivetrain. After a few minutes on the cruise, we noticed that the headers were starting to glow and decided to abort the session to research that issue. The datalogs from the session seemed fine with AFR's, timing, and fuel trims where they're supposed to be. My car was the second car in a week on the dyno with a similar build exhibiting a similar issue. Our first thought was that the hot headers could be caused by incorrectly installed cam timing. Both Rick (the owner of the other car) and I trailered our cars home and tore our engines down to check the cam timing. We were relieved to find that the cam timing on both cars had been set correctly. After an exhaustive search for info from all the parts suppliers, tuners, diagnostic equipment suppliers, etc we haven't been able to determine for certain whether we have a problem or not or what the problem might be. I've been told that headers shouldn't glow by some people and that they glow under cruise all the time by others. I've also been told by a former engine builder and racer, that he saw this phenomenon alot with new builds during the first half hour of breakin then it would go away never to return. For my part, I've installed an EGT pyrometer in the #5 primary and am reassembling my engine. I intend to continue the breakin watching the EGT to make sure the engine isn't running too hot. If the temps are fine, we'll finish the tune and see what happens. Rick has reassembled his engine and has been driving it (gently) on the base tune and he hopes to get it back on the dyno soon. He spot checked his headers with a handheld pyrometer after a cruise and they were cool (relatively speaking). I'll post some pics and video once we're sure that things are fine.

I've updated the showcase for the work completed to date. This past Wednesday I had the car at Matthew's for a new tune. I'm very pleased that the engine held together and put down 535HP to the wheels and 511 ft-lbs of torque on the Tecmotion Mustang chassis dyno. We left the tune a bit on the conservative side to handle the occasional tank of bad gas I seem to get around Calgary. The new dyno sheet is in the showcase. We have a bit of work left to do on the tune to improve driveability. I'm working on some video editing and will post up some new pics soon. It was also nice to finally get the car out to a cruise night at the new and improved location for the Calgary Wed night meet (now at Deerfoot Mall). Many thanks to Matthew and Rick Semeniuk for helping me work through the timing issues. In the end it turned out that the extra heat we were seeing was likely just part of the breakin process.

This is fanastic use of the MC Showcase forum. Well done car, excellent formatting that is easy to review and understand. This thread is exactly what we had in mind for a heavily modded car. Enjoy your new combo and all the best.

Thanks Darren! Hopefully more members will build showcases. There are so many great cars on here.
I've updated a few of the pics to show the new grilles, hoodpins, and black shorty. I've also included a pic of the Baer 6P brakes and links to the vids.
