Thank goodness someone else said it....lol...thanks Patrick but you are absolutely correct. The Mustang is a great, sporty, car but not a true sports car (please note this is not bashing our ponies but is simply taking a wider view of things). Although, I do concede, the point can be argued that the definition of a sports car may depend on which side of the Atlantic you come from. Lets face facts here, cars are built to suit their environment - North America (incl. Canada) is renowned for long, straight roads with very few twisty bits & (relatively) cheap fuel the cars here are designed with that in mind (i.e. lots of power to go quick in a straight line but with suspension that lends itself to comfort rather to handling). Europe would be the exact opposite, small twisty roads & (relatively) expensive fuel. Again the cars are designed with that in mind - smaller, lighter, smaller engines & handling designed to cope with the twisty bits right off the production line. North American cars will, in all likelihood, outrun their European counterparts in a straight line (try drag racing a Mustang GT against an MGTF 160, for example). However place the same (stock) vehicles on a tight track & the MG will most likely win. Of course vehicles can be modified to overcome their inherrent weaknesses but that does not change the original nature of the vehicle itself. Again, let me be very clear here, I am not knocking the Mustang here but it is a Sporty car not a Sports car. (Runs & hides...lol) |

It was an almost inevitable debate Jay & you weren't aggressive in expressing your opinion (IMO anyway). As previously stated life would be soooooo dull if we all liked the exact same thing. Vive La Difference!! |

Don't know about anybody else, but soon as I slip into the drivers seat and turn the key, any thoughts I had on the "true sports car" vs "pony car" debate disappear...just doesn't matter when you're in your happy place!!!
I will say this much... I used to be fairly ambivalent about 'verts until I got one. Might be different if it was used as a daily driver, but as a toy, it's a whole new experience to drop the top and cruise. |

Your story brings to mind a road test I remember from one of the major Auto mags years ago. It pitted a 195 hp Lotus Elise against a 2000 Cobra R and the lotus won pretty much every category.

i agree a convertible is very much a fun car... my sister had a 01 mustang convert... and it was awesome on those 10 days of summer we get here in Lower Mainland, BC.... but rest of the 355 days of rain.... trickle, trickle, trickle, LOL! I would love to own a convertible... but some where it doesn't rain so much... its not so much about cold.... as it is the rain.... and dont even tell me about what it feels like to drop the top and cruise.... test drove a saleen s281 sc last year with top down..... was a blast!!!!! so much so, i dont forget the test drive, lol. |

Heh heh heh.... looks like you fellas had a busy day....feels like the lone sailor/ UK Pony show!!! Nice!
Actually, UK...I find you're more the slow, steady poster, similar to myself. Fire off a few each day.... We don't hear from lone sailor for a while, then he comes back with a vengence and plays catch up!!! Either way...s'all good. |

Not interested in the Pony Car Vs Sports car debate, as its truly up to interpretation of the individual.
However my question has yet to be answered..... Which of those options can be had in Convertible in the poll? |

I believe they were all available in convertible trim, except maybe the 69 Boss and 69 Mach 1 (although that may have been an option and I certainly may be wrong but I never seen any of those 2 models in convertible trim). Maybe someone can come up with pictures if they exist.
