Your not the only one in that boat Freakshow, i recently took a huge soaking with the demise of our dollar. I have been working 12 to 14 hours a day, 7 days a week, for the last three months, trying to make up for it.

Ouch !! It'll come around sooner or later (hopefully sooner) but these things take time. I want it to come around soon too - have to renew my UK passport via the Canadian Consulate in Washington so have to make payment in USD. |

Yea, it had to do with this new equipment i had manufactured in California. When i put a deposit on it, we had a 96 cent dollar, but when the balance was due after the equipment was built, well what can i say? It ended up adding onto the price tag quite a bit. My usual 20/20 hindsight says i should have bought usd when i put the deposit down. It sucks but its not that big of a deal, nothing that good old hard work can't fix.
Having to go down to Washington to renew your passport sounds like it is a pia UK. I gather that was your original port of entry when you came here? I don't know to much about this kind of thing but i do know its a hassle having to deal with all the stupid rules when dealing with immigration. It is pretty stupid too when you think about it, you would think that any British citizen should be able to live or travel freely here and the same for Canadians there. I am getting so sick of all the stupid rules and regulations that politicians have created for the so called good. You just have to watch the news on any given night to see how stupid and out of touch these people really are. It drives me insane when i get thinking about it, all they are doing is holding us down and ruining what could be.... Damm i am starting to feel like my old rebellious teenage years!!! Ahh well give me a mustang to mod and race and i am happy...

Never been through Washington - it's apparently a cost saving exercise (not cost saving to me that's for sure...lol) on behalf of the British Government....thank you Gordon Brown ( ). Thankfully I don't have to physically go there to do it.Hindsight is usually 20/20 - mine works the same way too...lol Next time we get the dollar anywhere near par maybe you should buy some USD ready for any future deals (yes, I know....if only life were that simple...lol) |

Ohh i see, well if you don't have to go down there in person it is not so bad. I did open a US account and while all this was happening with our dollar i joined another internet forum that is used by Forex traders and some big economists. I have the same user name there! Me, Mr Car nut and all these traders talking about how many millions they trade on any given day. They really do know there stuff though, but even they are pretty overwhelmed by what has happened.
The way i look at the equipment purchase is that it is for equipment that makes you money, so its not like buying a car and never being able to recoup your losses. I looked all across Canada and the USA, for a suitable manufacturer of what i needed and i could not even get a Canadian company to build to my specs so i had to go with a US company. They were pretty understanding though about it all and i did manage to get them to throw in some extra's, so i really should not complain.

Ohh your going to the plant, i know Darren went there in the summer and said it was pretty cool although they don't let you see the good stuff. You are bound to get such good deals while you are there that it should more than make up for the dollar. People are not buying in the states now and everywhere you look there are major deals to be had. Have a good time, i was thinking i would go see the plant to and do it when a guy goes to Barret Jackson in Scottsdale. I am going to Texas A&M in the new year myself, so hopefully the dollar will be a bit better by then too.

Don't forget the CCA too - you are buying a depreciable asset still but as you say it'll be making you money along the way. |

Your right UK, thats the great thing about having a father who is a retired CA. He does all the books for me which is what i dread doing, i just can't stand paperwork. He was a senior partner at KPMG and also a trustee in bankruptcy. I do hope i never the the services of the latter!
