True enough - my goal is to not have to restore mine though. I have two '90 Lx Hatchbacks as well, one will take over DD duties from the other which will then get restored (I've already rescued it from the breakers yard, replaced a door, pulled out the rear quarter, replaced any structural rust with new metal, dealt with several electrical issues & running problems - it needs some cosmetic work on one fender & the hatch edge + paint to finish it).

As I said - I don't have an issue with anyone voicing their opinion, I might suggest a little more tact in future though . Stick around & hopefully you'll enjoy the site.

So that's your point? Two hours of pissing and moaning over standing in line too long for free food and all you can do is point out that very obvious fact? Like the rest of us are too stupid to have figured that out? Thanks! Seeing as you're not going to take the paper bag off your face, feel free to slink off now.

True - you just said that my car won because you believe the entire voting system was rigged & that it didn't deserve to win. It is your opinion but you will have to see why I won't agree with you on that point. There were a lot of Alberta cars there too - yet has anyone suggested you brought your fan club with you to get your trophy? I don't believe that has happened, nor should it, maybe you can see where I'm going with this....maybe not too.

I haven't posted in a bit, but after reading this I thought it was time to speak up.

First: HATS OFF to the Saskatoon Mustang and Classic Ford Club for all the hard work they did to put this meet together. This was my first International so I cannot compare it to others. I have been to many shows over the years (primarily as a spectator) and found this one to be of very high standards. Congrats a job well done. I am a new member of the SMCFC and definitely not biased by a home town meet. I still haven't figured out who's car is who's. I can tell you from pure observation a lot of work went into this meet by the club. I also know Steve (UK Pony) and know how much work he was putting into the meet and to find 25 hours to detail the car is worthy of an award. The award was "Best in Class 2005+" which is new cars. Look around how many 2005's do you see on the street still in show room condition? Please, that takes a lot of work and if you check his posts, well documented work. As for voting for the local guy - come on, he's British and we can't stand him so he had to be getting support from outside the city. (Just kidding UK) And if he did get local support it is because he is a constant contributor to this forum and is very involved in the club here in town. Judging was based on crowd appeal not
technical merit and if it had been the other way around the car would have still won because it is still in showroom condition. This is not a sheltered vehicle, it sees the streets. And as for dealing with issues on new cars vs old cars, once the initial work is done on an older vehicle, the regime is the same and trust me the way some new vehicles are made the maintenance is high just to keep it looking good.

Second: Opinions are great, it is why we have forums and freedom of speech, but Mr. 67 Rustbucket - oops Beater, why not state in a slightly less offensive way? No one said the meet was perfect - there were wasps in the air - which should never been allowed (how fussy can one get? - UK will appreciate that comment) Everyone worked hard - how about some positive feedback? Yes, there was gravel, oh my god it is a parking lot - were we kicking it at your car? Was it left there by the SMCFC on purpose - absolutely not. It would have been nice to have a street sweeper run through the lot, but that costs money and unless the fees go up or you fund the bill, it is not going to happen.

Third: The purpose of a "Meet" is to get together, meet people, see cars and maybe glance at a couple of hot women as they adore your car! If it was perfect, the cars would all be plastic wrapped Actually, 67beater, express yourself by showing us your car instead of venting over some very minor issues. I am sure your car is perfect to you, but what if we find issue with something? Will we slam you for it - not a chance because it is your car and done the way you want it finished. Same with the "Meet" - it can always be improved upon, but in reality it will never please everybody. I had a blast, I met people from Calgary, Red Deer, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Lloyd., Estevan, etc. In fact, I met a guy I went to school with that I haven't seen in about 25+ years and I would never have met him or any of them if it wasn't for the show. I saw a few women in short skirts and I met several people that were just as happy to talk about my car or their car as I was.

So 67beater, quit complaining and just be happy you have a Mustang that you are proud of and like to show. Be happy you got to meet new people and catch up with people you haven't had a chance to see in a long time. Be happy you got to give to charity while getting your belly filled and hopefully you got to enjoy a few refreshments too. Life is way too short to gripe about everything. Find the positive points, move on and be thrilled that you own the King of Pony Cars and not a friggin' Camaro! Take it easy!!! Have fun! Done! (by the way - if any one cares - Camaro doesn't spell check [no such word], but MUSTANG does!!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone seems to get their back up at criticism of the International, but frankly it's a show that's always been near the bottom of my list to attend because it normally has a lot of problems from my perspective. I attended this year's event because of the full slate of performance events and the SMCFC's reputation as the most performance friendly club in a group of clubs which could really care less about quick cars.

Pluses on this years event for me:
- The weather was fine
- Parking at the Heritage Inn was fine
- The event included drag racing, dyno shootout, and autocross events

Minuses on this years event, and usually EVERY year for the International:
- Show entry fee is about 4 times as much as most car shows
- The designated trailer parking was not a good looking option to me
- Aside from the dyno shootout, the performance events did not actually award performance. No "quickest drag pass" or "fastest lap time" at the autocross was awarded by the International. The local sports car club did award a fastest lap time for the autocross though, but this was NOT an award from the international mustang meet and had a completely different trophy.
- The BBQ is always a zoo - it was the same in Edmonton. I skipped it and went to the dyno day. There's no reason to expect any other year will be better.
- Since the member clubs in the international organization are mostly interested in restoration, this show is oriented toward them. Seriously modified Mustangs, and in many cases late model Mustangs, are usually relegated to a different parking lot or far corner of the show site, and are not well appreciated in this event. They never have been, and they likely never will be.
- The Tech process is very difficult for serious modifiers to understand. This is because there is a major disconnect between the resto guys and the performance guys in terms of expectations. No performance guy would ever consider a car with a non-ford oil filter, battery, and rad cap to be modified, but the resto guys do. They've tried to make this like an MCA concours show, but that doesn't translate well into the late model modified crowd.
- The banquet WAS a zoo and it was difficult getting a table. Klaw, we pushed our way in and grabbed almost the last two empty tables right at the back of the hall, and we were well ahead of most of the crowd. That's also the norm at this event.

Here's a couple of other observations:
- WMS showed their Vanquished Pony which is a SEMA show car and magazine feature car. They were relegated to a back corner of the parking lot and if it had not been for the local sports car club awarding a quickest lap time trophy for the autocross, they would have gone home completely empty handed. That creates a serious credibility problem for the show if you ask me. BTW: Since virtually noone attended the autocross as a spectator, they all missed an incredible chance to see a car like that in action.
- I showed and raced one of the quickest N/A Street Legal Mustangs in the world at that show, and made the quickest drag pass by a mile, and also went home empty handed. This is no surprise to me since I know what this event is all about, and it's not about cars like mine, but it is a demonstration of the fact that fast cars are not appreciated at this event, period.
- I enjoyed meeting a few people at this show, but honestly most of the organizers and attendees are from the resto side of the hobby and I really have nothing in common with them. This is why I no longer belong to AMAC: I had nothing in common with those guys except the car, and when I sold my 67 I didn't even have that in common any more.

Like I said on another forum, if you are a resto guy, the International is probably for you. If you are a performance guy, you are going to feel a lot more welcome at an event like Mega Ford Weekend, which is coming up over the Sept 14 weekend by the way.

-Matthew

Very good evaluation Mathew and certainly something that the International should take seriously. You modded guys like yourself and Shannon have certainly put as much attention in your vehicles as any of the resto guys and should well be recognized for your efforts. I too share little in common with the resto guys aside from my love for the car itself. It was certainly a treat for me to see your car there as well as the WMS car which I fell in love with the minute I first laid eyes on it, and to see the Vanquished Stang on the Autocross track performing was a treat. As I had mentioned before I didn't get to see your car run at the track but I will at MFW.

Thanks for your point of view, your opinion is of great value to the modded mustangers of the world.

I agree with everything you said Matthew. As I've said before, I'm not a fan of beauty contest voting. It's probably unrealistic to have one event that does justice to both the resto guys and the performance guys.

One of the problems with organizing an event like the Int'l is you don't know until the last minute what the turnout is going to be. In spite of the availability of on-line registration etc, I'll bet there was a huge rush for banquet tickets etc over the last week leading up to the show. By that point, it's too late to change host hotel, banquet room booking etc. As regards tables, I learned from my momma - when it comes to rush seating (like banquets or midnight mass at Christmas) it pays to be prepared, be early, and be aggressive.

I hope things go well next weekend. I wish I was able to attend - maybe next year. Remember: pics & video!

Is there really a point that you're trying to make here? All I'm reading is, blah blah blah. So what if he won. What's it to ya? So what if you built a car from the ground up. You think you're more deserving? A little full of yourself there aren't ya? You think he doesn't deserve to win because he took a different route than you did? Or you just like pointing out something that you think makes him or his car look less like the winner the he/it really is? Perhaps you're feeling uncertain of your own win, and possibly a little guilty about it? Which ever way it is. it's really narrow minded thinking. It takes all kinds to make the automotive world go round. However, the way you are approaching this is a little, childish. Jealous or not, you're the one who brought it up, so it must have struck a nerve with you in some way. I don't see anyone crying wolf here that doesn't have a second agenda of some sort.

I think UK has done a great job with his car, and I'm not saying that just because he is a member here, but because I know how much time and effort he has put into this car. It's about taking pride in something you enjoy. Some around here call that an enthusiast. I agree with that statement. That said, UK also has something called class and sportsmanship, which is something you may want to look up in the Webster's.

Good day.

Oh yeah another great thing about the International: I got to meet smellslikewetdog and guess what he doesn't smell like a wet dog. Never would have met him in person if it wasn't for the event. Great guy even with the inside jokes! That was the best part - meeting people and enjoying everybody being proud about their rides, stock or modified!

MC isn't a bash site.

And I had a great time at the International. I think it was a great event that I went to with my family, and ended up meeting quite a few fun loving, like minded stangers, from MC and otherwise. A little waiting didn't bother me too much, due to the atmosphere (and I'm an impatient guy). I'm definatley going to Billings, due to the impression my 1st Int'l gave me.
