Apparently there is only 3 00 R's in Canada, my buddy's boss owning 2 of them. One is a full on race car and another pretty much stock. The stock one does get driven from time to time on the street.

When those cars were new you could order them from a Canadian dealer if you signed a form stating that you understood that they cannot be registered in Canada. Because those cars are so rare, they may not appear on customs or DMV lists specifically, so you might be able to get away with registering them as just a Mustang. You could be in for some trouble though too.

I wonder what makes them not pass safety standards, when I looked over the stock one it just looks like a 01 Cobra with a hood, splitter and wing on the outside, racing seats, back seat and radio delete on the inside. And of course the big 5.4 under the hood, must be missing proper bumpers under the covers etc for weight reduction, anyone know?

Seems to me that in order to pass Cdn collison standards you must actually crash a few of them in the lab for the things to qualify. Being a 5.4L powertrain does not make it fall under the normal Mustang standards. Being limited production Ford probably did want to smash them for the tiny CDN market. I recall hearing this problem with the limited run of one Cdn 2003 Saleen edition SVT Cobra, that made it in before the Riv shut it down.
