Hi All,
I am new to this forum and wanted to ask the membership their opinion. I have the opportunity to take possession of a 1979 Mustang. The catch is that is vehicle is presently in Europe and I would be responsible for the shipping charges to get this vehicle back to Canada. The three estimates I have average $6000.00 Canadian for shipping. This vehicle was purchased in Canada in 1979 and brought overseas when my relatives moved back. It is being offered to me free of charge other than the shipping costs. To the best of my recollection this vehicle has low mileage and is probably in good condition. Also, I have been told that it was one of the limited edition models for that year. Unfortunately, I know nothing about Mustangs and do not know what limited edition for that year means. I guess my question is: is the value of the car worth paying the shipping charges? I have no idea on the value of a 79 Mustang. Though the car holds some sentimental value to me, I am not sure it is worth $6000. Does anyone know of a company that will ship vehicles low-cost? Any opinion is appreciated. Thanks |

Welcome to the forums,
If the car is a limited edition, then it would be the 79 pace car. If you search the net you can find tons of info on these cars. As far as value goes, I've seen them for sale for as high as 10-$12,000 if the car was in excellent original or restored condition. Unfortunately, the problem in selling these cars is that it's a very limited market willing to pay that kind of money for a 79 mustang. Sounds like it's more a question of whether the car is worth $6000 to you. I don't imagine you're going to go through all the trouble of bringing it here, only to sell it for a loss?? There are a lot of people in the Fox world that love the 4 eyed cars, myself included, but also keep in mind the 79 wasn't exactly a performance car. Both the 4 cyl turbo (132 hp) and the V8 (140 hp) made pathetic power numbers. If you're interested in the car for it's heritage / sentimental value then go for it, but like the rest of us, you'll probably end up putting a lot more than 6k in upgrades into the car over the years. As far as shipping, I have no idea. Where exactly in Europe is the car ? ![]() |
