does any one use royal purple products ie: purple ice, motor oil ,gear oil , etc in they're ride? if so is it worth the extra cost? or is it all smoke and mirrors?
what do you think?

Royal purple seems to be the popular thing to do of late...To expensive for my taste though...I use Mobil 1 too.
When I swichted to Mobil 1 Synthetic from conventional oil, I noticed a difference right away...The engine reved quicker and seemed to have a few more pony's than with the Quaker state I had been using. I wouldn't have believed it myself from hearing about it, but Im a believer now!

Yeah i did, then i switched to mobil 1 for costs.
I am going to change up completely on the next motor and get a way from synthetic and 10w-30 or 5w-30. Anyway, i think all your getting is smoke and mirrors. But you also get to see some nice purple colors if it is worth it to you! |

mobile 1 is generally more expensive than Royal Purple. RP is the cheapest synthetic I sell. After developing a nice tranny howl after switching to RP ATF I''ve decided I won't run it any more. All thier oils seem very thin.
Mobile one is an OEM oil for Mercedes Benz, Porsche and several other really high end manufacturers. That's good enough for me ![]() Redline is another really good oil, but a litle more difficult to find.

I ran royal purple in my engine for one season, I went thru a pile of it as well, most 5.0l's will use an amount of oil under hard use, but with RP it doubled. Like FM said it seems to be a really light, thin oil.
I have since switched to Mobil 1 syn, for the axle and engine, and have synthetic Ford ATF in the T5, no complaints so far. I did not notice a difference between switching because I swapped fluids from dinosaur to syn, the same time as doing 3.55's LT's, catless exh, CAI, smog delete etc. However that being said, Horsepower TV did a back to back dyno comparison on RP vs regualr stuff in a LS1 Camaro (Shudder) and they picked up 7 RWHP and 8 TQ on a dynojet. Was it the RP, or simply switching to any synthetic, or even just not having the car at the same temps for the two pulls, who's to say for sure. In the end I run synthetic stuff, for the better protection it offers and it's resistance to thermal breakdown. Mobil 1 for this guy... |

Toma from performance-shop owns a dyno company in Calgary and did a comparison test with synthetic and regular fluids. The synthetics made more power on the run before everything was up to operating temperature but once things were up to temperature, the power difference was zero.
That being said, I run Mobil 1 in my explorer and in the wife's SVT Focus. The protection factor is worth it for these cars. |

I've got RP in the motor, tranny, rear diff and power steering and Motul RBF600 brake fluid in my fox. It has held up well after a few hard lapping days at Dunnville and Mosport. Much better than the Castrol GTX that I used before changing to RP. The RP powersteering fliud is the first ps fluid I've used at road courses that has not blown out of the pressure release onto the headers and front wheels at Mosport - quite a situation on corner 8 - so I'm happy with it so far.
