Today's HP cars and speed limits

Reading the Z06 corvette thread got me thinking about todays high performance vehicles and the advances in technology that makes driving these machines enjoyable. My biggest pet peeve is the joke of certain speed limits in this country that makes owning a fast car not even practical in some sense. Wouldn't it be awesome to own a 550 hp vehicle and be legally able to drive 80-90 miles/hr? Let's face it, driving 60 miles/hr was fast 30 years ago in 30 year old vehicles, not by today's standard. I recently was stopped in BC in the Charger for doing 115 km/hr in a 100 km zone, and really, ya really don't feel like your speeding at all, but then some poor sap in a 1984 Toyota Supra blows by you doing 120 with rusted out body panels, lights not working, windshield cracked to hell... not very well maintained, I bet he feels like he's flying!! After getting the ticket from the cop, I floored the car and took off like a bullet and left the cop in the dust, but I never broke 100. No laws in how fast you can reach the speed limit.

BTW, fastest vehicle on the roads seem to be those damn minivans, I get passed constantly by those things..haha.

Hello,

In Quebec the speed limit is 100 km like in BC but police tolerate 110-115, the problem whit high speed here, is the guys who drive fast dont have the car for, so we have many accidents almost each weekend, it's often young men who drive Civic, Acura, Tiburon, small sporty car like this.

Last weekend 4 young men where injured (the driver is dead), in a big accident, it was a 50 km zone, look the car, did you think that the speed of the car was 50 ? :

I have some of my friend who drive fast on the road, but most of all are responsible and go the track when they want to go fast.

F.

I bet dollars to donuts that he drives a gas powered Chevy truck. That's all my Chevy would let me do also.

My friend got an excessive acceleration from 0-30 ticket once. We laughed at the cop but it held up and he had to pay it.

Anyway, I've said before that there should be a teired license system in place. You could even go one further and get special plates that allow you a higher rate of speed. But realisticly 90% of the drivers on the road can barely control their bright/dim function on their car ( I swear I pass 2-3 people a day that have their brights on in the daytime and are oblivious to it) nevermind speed.

I think getting the slow drivers to get up to the speed limit is a higher priority. Having one person going 80 while everyone else is going 100-120 is much more dangerous than everyone going 130 in my opinion.

I'd say overall here in Ontario you won't get stopped for anything up to 115 or so.
