insurance during the winter

i was just wondering what you guys do for insurance on your mustangs during the winter. do you cancel the liability and just keep the fire and theft on it or what?....this is my first winter with the car so not really sure what to do? im 24 so i pay quite a bit for insurance on the car plus my truck that i drive all year round. like will i save any money if i call and cancel and just keep fire and theft or is it to much work for the savings.(i pay $1200 a year for the mustang alone if that helps)..

1200 a year isn't too bad at all. I pay around $1000 a year if I was to insure it for that amount. I just put my car on the road for 6 months/year. I might just do it for a year when I insure her again so if there is some nice dry days during the fall/spring months I can take her out.

I've already got my personalized plates waiting for me to insure her in the spring

yeah i thought that $1200 a year wasnt bad at all either. of course i think that it helps being that im married because when i got married 3 years ago my insurance was almost cut in half. i also thought that when you turn 25 that your insurance goes down as well but i dont know if that still exists.

In BC you can buy a storage policy for theft and fire and it is dirt cheap (well under $100/year, I think it's somewhere around $60). Not sure what's available in Alberta.

here in Ontario at 23 on a 2006 GT I pay over $3000 a year. In the winter it drops to $70/month for just fire and theft. Ontario sucks for insurance.

A box of 12gu Sabot slugs and a rusty knife, a simple trip wire system and a good car alarm. But ICBC winter storage insurance never hurts.

Any money you can keep in your pocket and not give to the insurance company is a savings in my book. I'm 30 and have a 2003 Mach which costs me about $140 a month to fully insure. In the winter I only keep fire and theft and my premium drops to $18 a month. This is what I pay in Toronto Canada.

Alright here is what i do. I insure the car for an entire year, being 20 years old that is about 1900-2000. So, when the time comes to park it for the winder i bring the plates down and tell them i am going to cancel it they say pay $30 bucks. But what they dont tell you is that you can use that money to insure you car throughout the winter. Granted mine is in a garage so i only put fire on it, but it is for 6 months of fire. If you want to pay 10-20 bucks more you can get theft too.

In the end you get the cheaper rate of buying it all year (I pay monthly) and using the cancelation fee to insure it during the winter.

I used to do storage insurance. I always put a year on the car, the winter before i was too lazy to cancel it, so i just left it on. I was excited in february and took it out on a beautiful cool dry night, and just so happened that i poped 3rd gear out of that t5. I blame the car for being insured haha. What i do now is just drop it down to "Specified perals" Gives you fire theft, and you can even run it on the road if you want that risk. Mine is also in a garage, probably easier to steal then if someone had to dig it out of the snowbank. haha

I used to just put fire and theft on mine over the winter while it was in storage, but last summer I found a new insurence company the specialize's in Antique and Classic ins. Mine is in the Classic range of between 10-25 years old and appraised at $8500, and all my insurence costs me is $230 for the whole year, yeah I couldn't believe it at first either. Thats full coverage too at the appraised value. Im not supposed to drive it everyday or to work, and you have to have at least 1 other vehicle insured on the road so they know you have a daily driver, I have 2 other vehicles on the road...

Know Im not an insurence agent...lol

has anyone here tried insurance through CAA? I quoted a price on my 07 Gt that i recently ordered and it was 1300 a year. My sister also switched to CAA and save 400 bucks a year on her 06 Saturn ion.

I pay 1800 a year right now on my 05 f150 through a different company.
