ODI - Office of Defects Investigation If you are concerned about known warranty problems about your car, Technical Service Bulletins (TSB's) are a good place to start and give you amunition when you visit the Dealer for repair. Many people talk about them here on the forums, but few know where to find them. The TSB that Ford sends it's dealers are available to the public through National Highway Transportation & Safety Adminstration. These TSB's do not mean there is for certain a problem with your Mustang. It just means that Ford has seen a lot of repairs for this particular problem, so they send a bulletin out to the dealers so they have general direction with warranties. The ones listed on the NHTS website are brief and the Dealers version may have a great deal more information. None the less, it is a starting point and I thought the link may be useful. It also contains Recalls, Complaints, and Defect investigations. Yep. If you have a problem and still have warranty it should be covered. I would also print it off and take it in with you. If you have a custum tune I would also flash your car back to original just in case. I know with my Diablo tuner if I don't and they flash the car I am screwed.

Wouldn't the hand held just delete the program they screwed with and load up your original tune? I'm not saying you're wrong kaisoboy, I'm just trying to get my head wrapped around this. Might be good to know if my tune gets accidentally monkeyed with... That's all it does when you first install the custom tune- it deletes the factory tune and loads up the custom tune, correct? Now...if the techs tried to load info for the factory tune into your custom tune, I can see how there would be problems. But I think it could be remedied by reloading the custom.....maybe I'm in over my head....time to call in the experts!!!!! Matthew??? Nice job with the TSB's by the way! |

Now with that said here is where the problem comes if you do not reload your original back up and the dealer reflashes the car. The unit (programer) is married to your car and has asigned a Cal ID to your stock backup that is saved to memory within the unit so if the dealer reflashes the car with an OEM updated file and you go to load your custum tune and you did not restore the original before the dealer flashes the car it will not be able to find the Cal ID and you wont be able to upload your custum tune because it is married to the Original OEM tune you first saved to the unit and you will be SOL. That is why they (Diablo) suggest strongely that you reloading you original tune to the car before taking it to the dealer. I exported my stock tune to my PC as a safety precation because and don't quote me on this I beleive you can force the programer to accept your old calibration but I think it is a PITA to do. Now if you just had a dyno tune and they flashed that to your car it will still get erased and you will have to go back to your tuner and have them reflash you custum tune to the car. Nice job explaining that one out man...that makes good sense, followed what you were saying the whole way through- thanks! Sounds to me that my XCALII works much the same as the Diablo, with each handheld being specific for the VIN, and how it loads the programs up.
You are correct sir! If they monkey with it, you are indeed screwed!!! Again- nicely done. I usually rely on hounding them not to download anything or putting an adhesive label over the OBD port, but for all it takes, maybe I'll start bringing the XCALII with me!!! |

Thanks folks. I agree making this a sticky would make it easier to udate if anyone finds new info. I am glad this is helping some folks out.
I got my car back from Maclin and i have to say again great job done by the staff there. it was the most pleasant experience I have had at a dealer. When i got there the car was not quite done yet but the Tech opted to stay late and get it done so I went and picked up a six pack of his choice and had a bear with him when he was done. Not only that but when I looked at my car in the bay he had seats covered with plastic and the floors with the cardboard mats so that they would not mess up the interior. I got my car back in the same condition I gave it to them in. CLEAN!! Again...Great Job Maclin.

I keep my Diablo with me whenever I go anywhere just in case the car has a problem and i need to take it to the dealer. I simply re-flash it to the original backup just in case they decide to flash it for some reason. The only problem with flashing the original back is that it erases the custom tunes and resets the programmer so I have to wait to get back home and download my custom tunes back to the unit. Oh well, better safe than sorry. Cheers |

+1- who needs to go over to those other sites anyway...can't speak for anybody else, but nothing on any of them interests me much anyway. Not knocking anybody who is a member of other forums, more power to yah.... just speaking for myself....
