Ford Mustang Camshaft Specs 1985-1993
1985-1988 PN# E5ZE-AA H.O. Motors equipped with a manual transmission were fitted with a hydraulic roller-tappet camshaft for the first time in 1985. Previous to this Windsor motors were reliant on the flat-tappet hydraulic cam used in the 1982-84 H.O Mustangs LIFT (in.) Intake - .278 Exhaust - .278 DURATION (degrees) Intake – 266 Exhaust – 266 EVENT PHASING (degrees) Intake Open – 17 Intake Close – 69 Exhaust Open – 67 Exhaust Close – 19 OVERLAP Degrees – 36 Factor – 9.04 LOBE CENTER Intake – 115 Exhaust – 115 1989-90 PN# E8ZE-CA In late 1988, the roller camshaft was modified slightly. The intake lobe's opeing and closing ramp contours were adjusted to reduce valvetrain noise. This change was effective on build dates of August 8, 1988 and afterwrads. Even though this camshaft has a less aggresive contour it does not affect it's lift specs. The change in the valve-open area under this grind's curve degrades the 1989-93 Mustangs' performance by 3 HP. Some engines assembled with this cam may have been installed in Mustangs built late in the 1988 model run. LIFT (in.) The revision does not affect the cam's lift or phasing specs and the shaft remains interchangeable with all other 5-liter roller blocks. LIFT (in.)
