interior swap question?

how difficult is it to switch from an 82 dash to an 87-93 dash? basically my concern is with the gauges seeing as i am leaving my car carbed with no computers? with the speedo and tach still work? also can i just cut off the top part of the frame on a door from a full roofed car and put the window from mine in it to use on my t top?

Can't help you with the first couple of questions varanus69...or the last question for that matter.
Not trying to be ignorant or anything, but why would you cut off the top part of the frame on a door from a full roofed car and then use your window? I would think there would be a fit and finish issue there...are doors for your ride that difficult to find that you would have to consider that?

The swap is a PITA. Why are wanting to go back to an '82 gauge set?

I believe he is talking about putting the newer dash in his 82....
LS is correct though, its not the most fun. I did my 82 a couple winters ago, and it was a big job, even with going completely over to 89 wiring, EFI, and all that good stuff. Build mounts along the lower lip of the winsheild, swap over to the newer heater box, which means filling and getting rid of the old holes, then cutting and mounting for the new location of the heater core inlets etc. i believe part of the pedal assembly is different, cant quite remember. A pillar trim is a bit different, but can be trimmed to fit, you'll need to change the console, or it will look retarded. So you can make a new mount up where the audio console comes down, thats not a big deal. The ebrake handles are in slightly different locations, and you really need to move it to make it right. I swapped over to the newer handle, and moded the location to accept it. Then you have to change the rearmost mount for the center console, and of course, fix the broken ash tray door, and busted up arm rest door, like almost all 87-93 cars have problems with. It will probably be a wiring nightmare if you try to mesh the carbed stuff, with the newer dash... But its a nice swap, none the less. Good luck

holy crap roller82 thanks for the heads up. i think i will just stick to doing the door panels. while i like the newer interior i don't have nearly the patience to do that. and gt4mt i have the only fox gt stang in the area (its a big area) so yes around here they are that hard to find.so i was gonna take the doors from a good 4banger and convert them to my t-top. wasn't sure if the glasss is the same between the 2 doors so was just goona swap glass to be sure. doors i wanna use have pw and pm while mine are all manual. guess i am just dying and wrapping my original interior
