It should be a press fit barrel. over time gunk and oxidation of the ring interference point will jam it in there. safest way to remove is to pull the console out and push from behind, sucks, but that plastic doesn't take much before it explodes.

If I recall correctly there are also 2 under the shifter boot plate, just pop it up and they should be there.

There are 6 in total to remove the console, two under the ashtray, two under the e-brake handle cover (or boot plate as annihilator mentioned), and the two in the arm rest. Alhtough I'm most familiar with pre 87, but for sure there will be 6 screws altogether

You should be able to push it out from the back, and it will come out from the top of the console.

Yep it should. unless there is a threaded collar underneath, but I can;t remember any mustangs having that style. I would try turning (spinning) the lighter barrel from underneath, that will tell you if the bracket is holding the lighter, but a simple twist and push from behind is all that should be needed.

well from underneath the lighter spins around but the whole lighter assembly under the console is larger than the hole. also there is a black clip attached to the lighter, does this come off or need to be broken off. there is a silver ring around the lighter on the top side where the ligther itself goes in. please help.

Glad to be of assistance (if you can call it that hehe). At least you asked first, my questions are usually "I broke this doing this? any ideas?" and the responses are usually "because you should have done this"
Its all fun, look at it this way, you saved about a $100 bucks to have a dealer replace it ![]()

Non under the ashtray for this one, because the ashtray is in the middle of the console for 87-93, not right at the top. The cigarette lighter has also been moved from the front, it's beside the e-brake on the left behind the ashtray. Last edited by TheAnnihilator : 08-07-2008 at 2:03 PM. |
