Stupid F#@*in Dashpad

I took out my old beat up dashpad in my '70, to put in my new one thats been in storage for a few years now, and the new one doesn't go in too well... The new one is tons thicker all over, and it basically seems like it can't make it far enuf foreward to line up the screw holes.... anyone had any experience with this?
