The local Vancouver Mustangs club is having their annual spanish banks meet. I went last year and it's about 100+ cars enjoying each others cars and burnouts. I'm not sure if anyone else is on there website but I figured I'd post this cause the more the merrier.
here's the link to the 1996 meet with some of the other sites attending. YouTube - Spanish Banks Video Final Last edited by 89GTcoupe : 01-29-2008 at 5:31 PM. |

I was strongly considering on going since the weather is going to be nice. I'm not to keen on the burnouts that are planned though. I'd put money down that the po-lice will be showing up for this one after their last event. I heard many spanish banks residents were filing many noice complaints. This is something I don't really want to be caught up in.
BTW, it's not a local Mustang club. It's a bunch of teenies and post teenies that are part of a vancouver based forum. The only true Mustang club in the lower mainland is the G.V.M.A. that include old farts like myself.....lol.

well I'm no teenie... we are true mustang enthusiasts who do more with our vehicles then let them collect dust like most of you GVMA guys. You are right however... the police did show up. Handed out a bunch of no front plate tickets. A few no consideration for others tickets and basically sat back and watched the rubber fly from a distance.
The VPD did a decent job of keeping the peace and order. Some of the guys didn't notice the fact that we were right beside a 30km/h park zone and they payed for it. However if you kept the burnouts in the parking lot you were fine. If you dont drag, track, or lite em up at least twice a year you aint no mustang fan. And beeker from our site is one of our most respected users. He's well into his years. age wise anyways. Spanish Banks Meet 2008 - Video I'm at 4mins 46secs (my first 2nd gear burnout) and then about a min later but you dont really get to see that one. What do you guys do at the GVMA, sit around and look at cars? we have dealerships for that. |

That's hilarious man. No, I just have the common sense not to abuse my investment and waste hard earned money on tires that cost over $400 a piece to do burnouts and smoke shows to impress muttonheads.

Got nothing against a good burnout.....relieves stress!! ( Although I'm more impressed if you can smoke 'em without touching the brake...hell, you can make anything smoke the tires with the brake on...like a Chevy.)
However....time and a place for everything. If I was in a parking lot that was THAT tight, standing in front of my pride and joy and constantly had guys lighting 'em up, I'd leave, or at least check it out from a distance. All it takes is one knucklehead to get carried away with impressing his buddies and screw up his foot/brake co-ordination to take out my ride or innocent muttonheads. Now before anybody gets all bent out of shape thinkin' I'm rippin' on them, 'cause it's been known to happen in the past...I'm not. Just my opinion if I happened to be there, which I wasn't. And truth be known, I thought the dealership comment was funny......I wouldn't beat the crap out of my equipment, but that's me!!!! Thanks for listening.... |

Im with GT4MT on this one. Also, with the hot rubber and debris picked up from the tires flyin around,id be pretty choked if i got hit with that crap.Besides, unless you got money to burn(pardon the pun) ,that seems like a waste of good rubber.

The Spanish Banks meet can be a little on the wild side but there were sure a lot of nice cars owned by a many kinds of different people. Some liked to burn off some tires and some who would rather watch. I like to roast the occasional tire but on the strip not the street. My "investment" is meant to be driven and enjoyed. Vancouver Mustangs is much more accepting than other "true mustang clubs" and all types of mustangs are welcome. I've had many bad personal experiences with "true mustang clubs" because of the year of mustang that I own and love. I've yet to experience this with Vancouver Mustangs. Fortunately there are so many mustang groups that it is easy to find one to enjoy being a member of.

To each their own.
I personally would not and will not put my car through that kind of burnout. I've got too much money invested in my car to let my hard earned money literally burn off my tires. Believe me when I say that all I need to do is take the traction control off and the tires light up effortlessly. By the way, if you get a thrill out of doing burnouts, then have at her. I don't mind watching them myself. I just wouldn't do it with my car. To say that a person isn't a true Mustang fan because they don't want to put their investments into that kind of treatment ("drag, track or lite em up at least twice a year") is not a very accurate statement. How you choose to drive and/or treat your car has no impact on your dedication and commitment towards your vehicle. John

I like the cruise part of the VM meets, driving out with a ton of other cars and taking over the highway. Missed it this year due to work. Watching people getting busted is pretty funny too.

Ditto. My car isn't expensive or anything, and I am by no means rich. I worked hard for 5 years to get my car and be able to do a lot of the stuff that I have already done to it. I was at part of the show, at 8 Rinks, watched some of the burnouts, hell I even made a video. But there was no way that I was doing that kind of thing to my car. Hell look at the videos I just did, the tires don't even spin for christ sakes. Like GT4MT said, I find it more impressive if you can smoke em up without hitting the breaks. Was gonna do that yesterday for the video, but again, I could bring myself to do it. DAMMIT. Maybe next time.
