Bit of a Wierd year for me, Sold My Mach 1 near the begining of the summer and thought i would take a break from cars for a while, didn't really happen as i bought a Cobra about 2 weeks later...
Cobra's been really good for me so far, didn't really do too much in mods this year but im hoping to get a few more done next year. Best for me was getting out to the track a few times and managing a best of 12.363@115.77 on 19" street radials. How was your year? and what do you have on the go for next year? |

Car ran strong all summer, much better than I expected out of a minor bolt on 99 cobra with a stock naturally aspirated motor. Best time was a 12.15 @ 113 mph with a 1.61 60'. Over the winter I plan to add a ported intake, long tube headers and reduce more weight by replacing the stock K member with a nice PSR tubular unit and coilovers. This should help get the car in the 11's.

I had a very bad summer, listen to this one..... All winter long I had plans of buying a 3rd gen. RX7 and dropping an LS2 in it, until I came across a deal I couldn't pass up on my Cobra. I bought the 96' at the first of May and drove it home from Toronto without a hitch.
1st problem - Two weeks after purchase I broke a shift fork and shift plate in the trans, out comes the trans along with the k-member (couldn't get the trans out without removing the passenger long tube header which resulted in the removal of the K and many other parts) 2nd problem - The car had a 93 octane SHM tune in it which was giving me bad spark knock at high rpm's, no problem, I'll just get it tuned right? wrong! the car began a nasty missfire while on the dyno and couldn't finish the tune... Finally after replacing all the basic parts I narrowed the problem down to the MSD plug wires which should have been good. Got the car tuned and made 325rwhp. 3rd problem - The day after the second tune, I went to the drag strip. I did one burnout and pulled to the line for my first launch of the weekend.....and boom! blew the differential apart! Spent most of the weekend scounging for enough parts to get me home. Rebuilt the complete rear end as everything inside was destroyed. New 03/04 Cobra carrier, gears, bearings and Moser axles. 4th problem - After completely rebuilding the rear, I put about 100kms on the car and broke another shift plate in the trans. Ask me how my summer is going now!!!! I ready to fix it and sell it and buy the RX7 I had originally wanted! Out comes the K-member, header and trans again for a new shift plate and second gear syncro. The only bonus is I was able to the job much quicker the second time around. During the assembly process I calmed down a bit and decided to keep the car considering all the work that had been done to it recently and the fact that I really do like it.How's that for a fun summer? ![]() |

mine year wasn't too bad, much better then last year. only mods on the car were 03 cobra seats. nothing else. rear end needs rebuilt as the trac loc doesn't work anymore and broke a shift handle at the track. so out comes that shifter for a MGW unit. thats about it. oh ya and had an old lady back into the car with her pickup, while i was on a job site. 500 bucks in damage, but when the bumper popped back out it was bad except for some stretched paint and now its flaking off. i'll get the whole car painted soon.

not a good start to the summer but a great end. bought the stang in june i think , very excited. drove home with a big grin on my face. went to armdrop live in ed 5 days later. had fun , broke some shit , drove partly home. fucked the motor, car sat in my garage untill i cooled off to figure out what to do with it. pulled old motor fixed it , put it back , motor was still fucked , now on the verge of a murder charge , bought new motor, installed new motor. listened to previous owner, adjusted timing, started car, ran car , drove car for 600 km , motor fucked for the second time. wanting to kill previous owner.( many other things wrong with the car that ..... well we will just leave it at that ) lol . pulled motor , new pistons , rings , installed motor , threw car on trailer, drove to edmonton , got car tuned and have been happy with her ever since.
as for the winter , a 72mm ITS turbo to install , install a complete black interior ( its 2 tone right now black/grey ) except the seats. those might go leather , susspension , tires , maybe some new rims. not sure about the rims yet. the wife already wants to push it out of the garage ( i always have the keys) and set it on fire. so if she does that, ill just go get another stang , so i think mines safe ..... for now. hahahahahahaha Last edited by tear u a new 1 : 10-26-2008 at 8:52 PM. |

Had a great first year with the car. Ran a best of 12.72 @ 108.17mph. I have not done anything to the NA 3V engine. It is still sucking through the stock air box and filter that forces me to shift at 5500rpm. Car was lowered 1.5" and had adjustable lower arms on it when I got it. I put an aluminum ds, Pro50 shifter, Steeda rad support and MT ET Streets amd skinnies for the track. Plans are to do a FI setup over the winter if the funds allow. If not I might just do a set of gears and a CAI. We'll see.

Well, its an ok year NOW...was out of commission on an engine swap all summer (Engine pulled last fall) until beginning of october when I got it running again. Tried to sell my old 84 short block but it ended up having a cracked cap rendering it unworthy of the work required.
Swapped in a 91 Roller block with the forged pistons, had the bottom end fasteners updated to ARP with mainstuds, some Clevite bearings, all cleaned and assembled. Ported an apparently rarer set of D3UE heads myself (about 20 hours and a dremel speed control burnt out). Ordered new undercut 1.86/1.46 valves, some stiff double springs, and had the same machine shop assemble and check valvetrain geometry with the roller rockers. Assembled and painted everything else myself, drop it back in on my own with a lightly used tremec TKO, all new fly/clutch/cabling etc. Then had a fun time cuttin and welding my pass side muffler to clear the 4in aluminum driveshaft (that I HAD to use because of the spline count on the TKO). All work was rewarded with a breeze through initial startup, no leaks of import, and a crap load more power and power up to 6000RPM, maybe more. The engine feels way stronger than I could have hoped, even with the "Franken-Carb" I built from two different series holleys. Its such a crazy combination, witha B303 cam, odd ball heads originally modded with chev valves, knockoff roller rockers, knock off airgap intake, and an enthusiastic if less than expert gearhead spinning the wrenches. Dyno will tell the numbers, and y'all are gonna play the guessing game in the spring. Over winter some reliability plans, swap in an 8.8 with new arms, springs, 3.55 gears, and some crazy thru floor subframe connectors and shocks/struts. And a new steering rack as I wouldn;t trust this one past a 100KM/h. Next summer is gonna be expensive on gas....but can;t wait to hit the strip and see what this tin can can do

Well i had a decent summer, even though i didn't get to the track other than as a spectator. I got my 94 T-Bird SC running with the 5.0 i built for it. It was alot more work than it should have been. Those cars are a pia to work on and hard to find parts for. I used a 95 SN-95 computer and had to splice into and repin the harness to wire up the 2000 4r70w transmission. Man talk about a wiring nightmare! I had some problems on wot though but did trace it down. I recently found a very rare 94 SC 5 speed and everything required to do the swap, so i am about to get that going very soon as i can only have the car in the shop for 2 more weeks. I am going to be installing a Roush intake on it and did manage to get a very rare 94/95 Cobra J4J1 5 speed pcm so i will not have any big wiring jobs this time around. I did have the car in two car shows, the Healy Ford show and my home towns, "Rock n August", had a great time at both of those events. Was quite busy at the shop and it seems like i aways have about a 100 or so different projects on the go at any given time. This winter i am going to be building my vert and i am building a very potent windsor for it over the winter months, along with suspension and interior upgrades. I will be posting a "Build" thread on MC over the coming months once i get everything else cleared up so i can get started on it. All in all it was a good year, met alot of great people and had alot of good times...

A good year here for me as I found Drag Racing for the first time in my life (sheltered upbringing) and then reminded my wife how lucky her and the kids were that I didn't find this out before they all came along.
Had fun with the bolt on's and making my 16 second car do 14 seconds. Found some great people as a result of the acquisition of Sonic Blue by joining several communities online, at the track and joining my local car club. Plans for the car over the winter are the Boss make-over, close up the rear diff and add 4:10's, headers and maybe add some juice in a 75 hp shot. |

All in all I have nothing to complain about this summer. Once I sorted out the few issues early in the spring the car ran almost flawlessly all season for me. If my memory serves me correctly I think the car placed at all the shows I attended this year which is more than I could ask for. Ran a new personal best by a long shot and much better than I ever expected with a 11.70 by the end of the season. Bought a house with my brother, nice to finally be out of my mom's place, plus now I finally have my own garage to work and park in.
As for next year, well the car needs a new clutch so that is on the to-do list, will probably go with a twin disk setup. I am planning on a gear swap and 4:10's are looking like a mighty fine choice. Need a new set of rear tires for both my street setup and drag setup, probably going with nitto's again for the street and 27x10.5 ET streets for the track. Want to finally install my torque arm and panhard bar that I have been holding off on doing for 2 years now. Might also up the shot from 100 to 150 and see if I can bring the car past that 11.5 mark or break something trying. Car might also see a roll bar for next year to keep the track officials happy and to hopefully stop my hatch from rubbing on the car during launches. Last edited by MadMatt : 10-29-2008 at 4:52 PM. |
