Hello Everyone,
During the summer months I usually toss together some short notice (The day of) cruises and car gatherings. These typically consist of me calling anyone who is available to meet for cruising and/or supper at a specific location. Oftentimes this amounts to just 2-3 cars but is still a fun way to spend an evening enjoying the hobby. Upon returning to Canada I plan to pick this up again, and will be posting cruise timings/contact info in these forums for anyone in the area who is interested. I also try to organize drop-ins on some of the weekly car shows that occur over the summer months. IE Mainstreet Cruizers, The Petro Canada Thursday Night on Fort Road etc. If anyone here is interested in becoming part of the "call" list let me know, and if there is enough interest then I will, co-ordinate with this further. Stay tuned. Darren5.0L

Basic hints and guidelines for Cruising in groups larger than 2
Cruising is a very fun and interesting way to share your car hobby with fellow enthusiasts and the public. That final word, public, makes for a huge consideration when organizing and hosting cruises on highways and streets. It should be expected that all participants would act as responsible and courteous drivers to discourage the stereotype that is attached to modern car enthusiasts. (Read RICERS especially) As responsible people we should strive to present ourselves as respectable adults when in the eyes of the general public. This serves a few main purposes; 1. To encourage potential enthusiasts to enter our hobby, 2. To hold favor with the voting members of society who can in large groups effectively outlaw our hobby. 3. To ensure protect the safety or ourselves and bystanders. 4. Also to avoid costly traffic citations and tickets. While driving by yourself in your car may attract X amount of attention (good or bad) but when you are in a group of similar cars the group will be noticed much more than the individual, and this can lead to annoying intervention by the local authorities. So what does all this mean? I am not suggesting every cruise to be like a trip with your Grandmother to church, we are driving V-8's here, but conversely I am also cautioning against the "Cannonball Run" around your local town/city. It will not go unnoticed. So what we must be is prudent and restrained when necessary. For example, doing burnouts on Whyte Ave is a very bad idea, you may laugh but I only mention it because it has happened before. But when the situation allows, a fair bit of spirited driving can occur within reason, for anyone who thinks I don't drive my car like it was meant to be should check out my video titled 24. Aside for all this, the situation will dictate how a cruise runs and each participant is responsible for their decisions. I can only suggest guidelines, you have the final say what your right foot does. When cruising in a group I try to have at least a few Motorola FRS radios to help organize and collect anyone who gets separated by traffic etc. I personally have 2 and anyone who has their own is encouraged to bring them along. Next issue will be techniques and tips for keeping the packet (group) together in high traffic areas.
