Race City May 11

Was any one at race city on May 11 for opening night of secret street? It was crazy, I showed up @ 5:30 and the line for tech was already 20 cars deep. Must have been over 300 cars by 9:30. I was able to get in 3 runs down the 1/4 mile with 15.103 as my best. Also got 3 laps around the autocross(which is a lot more fun and takes more skill than the 1/4 mile) with a best time of 55 seconds. Not too shabby since the high money cars were running about 54 seconds, and the regular cars were slower than me(in a stock suspension mustang).

Ya, I was there. Excellent turnout, they said 194 cars showed up for racing, and good number of people in the stands also. I am assuming you were racing the car that is in your avatar?. My 9 year old son was with me and he always likes the stangs, but there sure was a quick silver SRT4 that was laying down 114 mph passes. I'll get my stang on the next round!!

You are correct that the car in my avatar was the one I was racing. A friend of mine knows the guy that owns the SRT-4, and there is some money in that car.

Sounds good. Just to let you know I will not be attending every Friday this year(other commitments, you know family). But when I do go I will post it in this thread before hand.

The weather was supposed to be perfect but now they're calling for thunder showers. Hopefully, whatever bubbles up will miss the track. I'm going out to spectate...I'll look for your cars there!

The owner was saying he might not open this year due to a huge property tax increase

It looks like the city of Calgary wants the land back to expand the dump. What I heard was Race City's taxes went from $40,000 last year to $200,000 this year. Complete bullshit. I can't believe a city the size of Calgary is trying to get rid of their race track.

That will be unfortunate if that happens, I myself and family spent many weekends there and enjoyed the action, better money spent there than going to a movie. It's getting harder every year to enjoy motorsports due to the eco-green movement trying to ban race fuels, noise pollution complaints...etc.

Actually, it's been coming for quite a while now. It was common knowledge among the racing groups in Calgary that they might get until the end of the 2009 season before Race City packed it in. It's really unfortunate that Calgary will be losing their facility. In a city this size with so many car enthusiasts and racing schools that use the track weekly, the closure of our track will be a great loss.
