Exhaust and Police...

Hello,

I want to know if it's tolerate in your area to drive a Mustang whit an off road h-pipe, x-pipe or pro chamber; you know the kind whit loud sound.

In Quebec it's municipal police who judge what is legal or not, but in the Highway Safety Code it's forbiden to modify the original exhaust of a car.

Is it the same thing in your province ?

Francis

I am not exactly sure what is legal in New Brunswick. I know that the police can usually make a judgement call on "excessive" noise whether it is from a car or not. With all the Bad ass Harley's out here that are as loud or louder than my car I would guess that NB is pretty easy going when it comes to vehicle exhaust note. I am also removing the cats on my exhaust and putting long tube headers on so if any one will find out about the noise issue it will be me

I'll keep you posted.

It's alright in Alberta.....for now, but replacing the stock exhaust system with an offroad H-pipe doesn't necessarly increase exhaust noise, it usually removes the catalytic converters from your car and if your in an area where air-care testing is performed ya may be in trouble. I personally haven't checked out the flow numbers of the different types of X/H/prochamber pipes for anything newer than a 93, but I'm pretty sure than an aftermarket exhaust with the cats perform better than factory. Changing the mufflers will create different sounds for your ride.

in bc it is illegal to remove cats from a catted car. period. however nobody cares in areas without aircare. as for mufflers, they have to have a baffle, no strait through mufflers.

Mufflers
61(1)</B> A motor vehicle propelled by an internal combustion engine must have an exhaust muffler that is cooling and expelling the exhaust gases from the engine without excessive noise and without producing flames or sparks.
(2)</B> A person shall not drive or operate a motor vehicle propelled by an internal combustion engine if the exhaust outlet of the muffler has been widened.
(3)</B> A person shall not drive or operate a motor vehicle propelled by an internal combustion engine if a device is attached to the exhaust system or the muffler that increases the noise made by the expulsion of gases from the engine or allows a flame to be ignited from the exhaust system.

Basically in small town BC, if you draw attention to yourself, they will nab you. Ive run my GT with longtubes, offroad H, and dumped dynomax's, and havent had much of an issue at all. when i first build the combo, i had the headers, H and race bullets with tails, and i didnt make the full 2 week mark before getting "motivated" by the local PD to remedy the "excessive noise". I run them on my truck now and have no problems, other then the obvious reasons for bitching about the truck. Actually the guys getting harassed now...funny enough is the rice boys, you should hear them whining at the local auto parts store about how they are just being "targeted"....Some places are more sticky then others, but if you draw attention to yourself, you will get attention you may not want.
