TVS2300 ROUSHcharger

Just saw on the Roush site that they have released a new S/C in their line up. Does anybody know about this? Would it be a good alternative to a whipple. Looking at their site it is the same price as the eaton m90 in the polished version and only $300 more than the black version, and this is to buy the complete kit. Although it only offers a 1 year warrenty on parts, my warrenty is getting near it's end any way.

This kit comes with a 2.3L TVS supercharger with black finish, upper and lower intake manifolds, an intercooler, a low temp radiator, a cold air intake system, a dual 60mm electronic throttle body, a unique fuel rail with 52 lb/hr fuel injectors.

Would I have to do anything else to my enigine in order to put this S/C on?

What do you guys think?

A tune would be a must. Other than that, I'm not sure. I think kits like this are fairly complete as far as the required engine parts go. You'd probably want to get the suspension and wheels and tires taken care of too to keep the extra power on the pavement. Those stock 235 wide pirellis likely won't do the trick.

Gears would probably be a must.

I think the torque curve of a positive displacement blower would reduce the need for a gear swap but gears would still help a bit.

After talking to the Scott at Waterloo Ford, he stated that I would most likely have to do a short block and would recomned so for anything over 450 hp. How much are we looking at to put a short block in. I already have everything priced out for suspension, brakes, and wheel upgrade, everything will be going in at once.

I would check out what Roush does with there engines, i don't know for sure but i don't think they use a special short block like the aluminator 4.6 You might be better off just upgrading the weak links which i believe are the pistons and rods. I would think that with the low mileage on your car the block would not need much if any machine work.

I thought most S/C kits for the newer cars were good to go on the stock internals. There are very few of them that hit 500 HP out of the box. The only one I can think of is the Whipple kit.

Im pretty sure Halifax GT installed his saleen on Stock internals and Dieselboy did the same with the KB. I could be wrong.

On the Roush P-51A they upgraded it with the following: forged steel eight-bolt crankshaft, forged aluminum pistons with increased dish to lower the compression from 9:8 to 8:6, and forged steel H-Beam connecting rods.

To upgrade this on a stock 3V engine what are we talking?

I'm still all stock internals and am running my Whipple HO at 10.1psi boost and making 415RWHP and 400 ft-lbs of torque based on Tecmotion's Mustang chassis dyno. That's about as much as you want to make on the stock internals without severely compromising long term viability. I have a second '07 GT low mileage engine and am considering building it up next winter and swapping it into my mustang. My current setup will then get swapped into my '95 Tbird.

I would ask around before I go and Build a block if your looking at 500 or less I would not worry about it as guy's have been running that for the last 3 yrs. Over 500 I would think going forged would be a really good Idea..and cost with the charger would be around the 10-12 mark I would think but just a guess...I went paxton here and did a ton of reading.

I would be planning on eventually going over 500 so think it would be best just to get it out of the way right now. I was looking at short block and it would run me around 10 - 12. What I am wondering is do I need to do a short block or could I get away with just doing the forged steel eight-bolt crankshaft, forged aluminum pistons with increased dish to lower the compression from 9:8 to 8:6, and forged steel H-Beam connecting rods. Is it cheaper and would that be sufficent enough. That is what Roush is running on their P-51A, granted they are only running 510hp.

I am looking at two options right now and sitting on the fence as to which way to go. I was originally looking at the Eaton M-90 (Roush) charger which would put me up to about 445hp running 7 lbs of boost with the ability to up the boost to 12 lbs if I wanted which would put me somewhere just under 500 hp. Now I know 500 hp is a lot, but the last thing I want is to go with the M-90 and down the road upgrade to something bigger. I was also thinking about getting the TVS2300, putting in a short block and running the charger at low boost for the first little bit. The last thing I want to do is buy the Roush and a year down the road decided I want more power. Is it not better to go big and dial it back rather than to low and have to upgrade.

A little insight as to what I would like my car to do. I just want a fun streetable car that I can take out to the track if I want, Don't want to put a cage in it.

This has been an ongoing argument in my head and any insight would greatly help my choice when it comes time, which won't be too much longer.

Thanks in advance guys.

I would go with option two and leave yourself some room to add power in the future with a simple pulley swap and a tune. I would probably go with a Whipple if I had a 3v car personally.

The Roush Eaton M-90 is only runnung 5 lbs of boost to make 445hp, what would these numbers look like if we up'd the boost to 10 or 12 lbs of boost?

5 lbs boost = 145 hp
10 lbs of boost = ?
12 lbs of boost =?
